Last Day of School Every Year
Every year on the last day of school the Wellington Filling Station hosts the Digital Scavenger Hunt. The event begins at 4pm and runs until midnight. The youth break into teams and run around Wellington taking pictures of specific items or themes. After the photo section of the event, judges score on creativity and completion. Games are played throughout the night and food is served. We are able to continue this event due to the enormous generosity and kindness of local businesses as well as individuals.
Originally, the hunt started around 6:00pm and ran to about 9:00 or 10:00 the following morning. Teams of youth were sent out into Wellington and surrounding communities to complete a list of random pictures (50+ pictures) with at least one Filling Station Staff member. The teams were to be back by midnight and while the pictures are being compiled the teams participate in fun challenges to try and gain points. After the challenges, a number of previously selected judges show up to judge the pictures of each team. Prizes for the team members are then awarded. By this time it is nearing 4:00 in the morning and we would all hike up to Horsetooth Rock. After returning to the Filling Station around 9am, the youth are exhausted and ready to begin their summer vacation by sleeping in.
Unfortunately, we do not currently have the means to run the Digital Scavenger Hunt this way. (We have a limited number of staff who are capable or willing to run around with teens for 15+ hours through the night.) We do however still have the teams compete for points and therefore prizes, so if you are willing to help out, it's very much appreciated. We also need judges to score the pictures.
